Virginie can be considered the second wine of the Premier Grand Cru Classé Chateau Valandraud. It was initially created when the vineyards on the existing property were extended but now is drawn from the exact same wines as it's more illustrious stable mate. The blend is slightly less reliant on Merlot, with a touch more Cab Franc in the mix. The full breakdown being: 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Ageing is very similar, if not identical to the top wine with 18 to 24 months in 100% new oak barrels and production is just over double with a total output of 80,000 bottles.
