Description

An aperitif that contains no base wine, instead a gentian infused spirit is produced over a long and complex process. Once the desired quality of spirit is obtained it is then blended with a secret mix of botanicals. Suze tastes remarkably soft considering the hugh gentian content, there's a peachy fruitiness, some bitterness and a dusty turmeric note. It makes an amazing White Negroni but is also delicious served straight over ice or in a long drink with soda.

Producer

Suze was created in Switzerland and then bought by Fernand Moureaux in 1885. It is still in production, now under the ownership of the Pernod group. In 1912, the artist Pablo Picasso depicted a bottle of Suze in his collage Verre et bouteille de Suze.

Suze is flavoured with the roots of the plant gentian, normally drunk as an apéritif.

Traditionally it's served neat, with tonic or with orange juice as well as a flavour in many cocktails.
