National Irish Coffee Week kicks off on January 25th and gives us a delightful excuse to pause, reflect, and savour the simple pleasures that come with a cup of warm, spirited Irish coffee. Whether you prefer yours in a bustling pub or at the cosy corner of your home, join the celebration, raise your mug high, and toast to the joy that is National Irish Coffee Week!

Legend has it that in the 1940s, on a chilly evening at the Foynes Airbase in County Cork, a chef named Joe Sheridan created the first Irish coffee to warm up cold, weary travellers. Little did he know that his concoction—a harmonious blend of hot coffee, Irish whiskey, sugar, and a crown of whipped cream—would become a global sensation!

Here’s how to make it!

1 cup of freshly brewed strong black coffee

1 tablespoon brown sugar

35ml Teeling Small Batch

Freshly whipped cream

Grated nutmeg (optional)

Step 1) Start by brewing a strong cup of your favourite coffee. Choose a high-quality blend to enhance the overall flavour.

Step 2) While the coffee is still hot, stir in one tablespoon of brown sugar. This will add a subtle sweetness that complements the boldness of the coffee and the warmth of the whiskey.

Step 3) Next, pour in the Irish whiskey. The smooth and distinctive flavour of Irish whiskey is what sets this coffee apart, giving it a unique and satisfying taste.

Step 4) Gently float a layer of freshly whipped cream on top of the coffee. To achieve the perfect consistency, slightly whip the cream until it forms soft peaks, then delicately spoon it over the back of a spoon onto the surface of the coffee. This step adds a luxurious touch and balances the richness of the drink.

If you prefer the lazier route, you can always try Sheridan's Coffee Layered Liqueur or if whiskey isn’t your thing, you can always add Irish cream!

We hope you enjoyed our blog post and have an amazing National Irish Coffee Week! Sláinte!
