The Fourth of July is a time of celebration, where our friends and family across the pond come together to commemorate the birth of the USA. As fireworks light up the night sky and laughter fills the air, there's no better way to enhance the festive spirit than by raising a glass of fine bourbon. With its rich history and diverse flavours, bourbon encapsulates the essence of American craftsmanship. We’ve put together a list of fantastic bourbons that are perfect for sipping and savouring on Independence Day.

1) WhistlePig 15 Year Old

A unique rye whiskey that has for 15 years in a single cask and finished in estate oak in the state of Vermont. Due to shorter growing seasons and harsh winters, Vermont oak has a tight grain pattern, which can affect the flavour profile of the whiskey. Bottled at a robust 52.5%, expect notes of toffee, butterscotch and chocolate with a spicy finish.

€345.00 | ABV 46%

2) Woodford Reserve Double Oaked

A 'double-oaked' version of Woodford Reserve, this is initially aged in standard American oak before a final period in heavily charred barrels, The result is a highly rated bourbon with more spice, more oak and some rich chocolate notes.

€69.00 | ABV 43.2%

3) Knob Creek Bourbon

This makes a mean Old Fashioned! A small batch Bourbon which has been aged for at least 9 years. Resulting in flavours of buttery vanilla sweetness, dark chocolate with a hint of spice.

€78.00 | ABV 50%

4) Maker's Mark

Maker’s Mark is a leading premium Bourbon smooth and sweet with hints of vanilla, toffee and oak!  Maker's Mark is made with soft red winter wheat, instead of the usual rye, for a one-of-a-kind, full-flavoured bourbon that's perfect for sipping straight, on the rocks or in your favourite bourbon-based cocktail.

€48.00 | ABV 45%

5) Bulleit 10 Year Old Bourbon

Tom Bulleit's Selected Reserve which has been matured in charred American white oak, resulting in rich oaky aromas along with vanilla, exotic spice and dried fruit flavours.

€85.00 | ABV 45.6%

6) Michters Small Batch Bourbon

A fantastic bourbon that recalls pre-Prohibition style whiskeys. Michters have recreated their whiskeys with one eye on the previous brand of the same name from before the Volstead act. This version is a barley rich, mouth-filling drop that makes a superb Old Fashioned. Aged in fire-charred, new American White Oak Barrels.

€75.50 | ABV 45.7%

8)  Wild Turkey 101

For more than 60 years, legendary Master Distiller Jimmy Russell has been crafting Wild Turkey 101 with a recipe unchanged since before Prohibition. This Wild Turkey has been aged for at least 6 years before coming out of the barrel at 109 proof. It is diluted slightly before bottling at 101 proof. Enjoy it neat, on the rocks, or in a classic cocktail. Winner of a gold medal at the American Whiskey Masters!

€45.00 | ABV 50.5%

9) Buffalo Trace Kentucky Bourbon

From the distillery of the same name, this is a great Bourbon at a reasonable price. Inspired by the ancient buffalo who carved paths through the wilderness that led American pioneers and explorers to new frontiers. A high amount of corn in the mash bill gives this a soft, smooth and creamy texture with some sweet and fruity notes. A long finish with great depth.

€45.50 | ABV 40%
