“Barr an Uisce” (pronounced Bar on Ishka) means “above the water”. It is also the Irish name given to Barraniskey, the townland set in the heart of the beautiful County of Wicklow, on the East Coast of Ireland where the brand was born. The Irish word “Uisce“ or “water” in English, was used during the time Irish monks first distilled what we now know as whiskey. The monks called it “Uisce Beatha” meaning "water of life".
The founder, Ian Jones, comes from a family who has a long history in the business. Barr an Uisce has been a hub of community activity and life for over one hundred years and is the perfect place to celebrate the history and culture of County Wicklow.
