Stolichnaya

Stolichnaya has its origins in the Moscow State Wine Warehouse No. 1 which was opened in 1901 by the authorities to ensure higher quality vodka production although the recipe for the vodka seems to have been developed in 1938. The historic Riga, Latvia facility joined with Stolichnaya in 1948 and still bottles their products to this day.

Fermentation of Stolichnaya starts with wheat and rye grains and artesian water. The fermentation takes about 60 hours. Once fermentation is complete the resulting liquid is distilled three times to a strength of 96.4% alcohol by volume. This spirit is then diluted to bottling strength with more artesian well water. It is then filtered through quartz, sand, activated charcoal, and finally through woven cloth.

Stolichnaya (or Stoli) has grown since and expanded its portfolio to include a number of flavoured vodkas in recent years.
