Del Maguey was founded by Ron Cooper in 1995. Cooper is largely credited for the growing popularity of Mezcal on the international market and breaking the negative stereotypes around Mezcal. All Del Maguey is made using the same traditional Zapotec handmade practices that have been used in Mezcal production for hundreds of years.
Only two ingredients are used in the production of their mezcals: the heart of the agave, and 10% pure water added to the fermentation process. Each Single Village Mezcal is made by individual family producers in old-style villages, with each product credited after the village where the liquid was made. Each label is drawn by iconic L.A. artist Ken Price, who coincidentally happened to live next door to Cooper in California in the ‘60s, and the pair became lifelong friends.
